There are many locations in this place that reminds the historical events of Hindu Mythology, and Vashishta Gufa or Vashishta Cave is one of them. The place is dedicated to Sage Vashishta and is said to be his meditation place. According to history, Sage Vashishta and his wife Arundhati meditated in this cave for a long period. 

Sage Vashishta was the Manas Putra or human son of Lord Brahma, and he was the guru of lord ram. According to the Hindu Mythology, he was one of the great sages among Saptarishi. Vashishta cave is situated on Badrinath road, 25 kilometers away from Rishikesh. It is a great place for deep meditation because of its calm and peaceful atmosphere. 

If you are interested in yoga and meditation, you can also consider visiting Phool Chatti Ashram in Rishikesh, which is 17 kilometers far from Vashishta Cave. This ashram has a beautiful and natural environment that provides a suitable location for yoga and meditation. They teach yoga poses and medication through various yoga programs. 

Tale Of Vashishta Gufa 

 

As per the story of the Hindu Mythology, Sage Vashishta decided to suicide in the Ganga River after the death of his all kids. But Maa Ganga didn’t accept his request. Then his wife Arundhati decided to stay at this place because she was pleased with this beautiful environment. 

So, they lived there, and Vashishta meditated here for a long time. Then this place is named Vashishta cave according to his name. Near to this place, there is another small cave named Arundhati cave. With time, an ashram was developed near this Gufa. Swami Purushottomnand decided to take care of this cave and ashram in 1930. Since that time, everything is taken care of by him and his trust.  

Things To Do in Vashishta Gufa 

Currently, this cave and ashram are managed by the Swami Purushottomnand Society. There is a staircase with more than 200 stairs to reach the cave. As you go inside the cave, it will be darker. The inside of the cave has a peaceful environment and provides a spiritual feel.  

There is a Shiv Linga at the end of the cave where tourists and priests worship lord shiva. This is a holy place and a lot of people come here every year to have a better experience. There is a beach outside the cave where you can sit and relax. This is close to nature and will help you attain inner peace. It is a great destination for spiritual seekers. 

How To Reach 

This cave is situated on Badrinath road in Swami Purushottomnand Ashram. So, it is easily accessible by taxi or bus from Rishikesh. From the Dehradun airport, this cave is 39 kilometers away. It is 25 kilometers away from the Rishikesh railway station.
