The temple is situated at a distance of 32 kilometers from the Rishikesh town at the height of 1330 meters on a hill. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is a great place for all Shiva devotees. It is located in the Pauri Garhwal district of the Uttarakhand state. It has a scenic architecture that attracts many tourists every year. 

The Lord Shiva temple is surrounded by Manikoot, Brahmakoot, and Vishnukoot valleys. Also, it has dense woods, the Nar-Narayan Mountain range, and the meeting point of Pankaj and Madhumati rivers on its surroundings. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva consumed poison at this place which was originated during the Samudra Manthan or the churning of the ocean by Gods and Demons. He placed the poison in this throat, which turned his throat blue. After this event, Lord Shiva is also known as Neelkanth, which means blue-throated. 

The architecture of the Neelkanth Mahadev temple narrates this mythological story by depicting sculptures of Gods and Demons during the Samudra Manthan event. You can notice the entire story of the churning of the ocean on the walls of the temple. There is a natural spring in the temple where pilgrims enjoy bathing. 

Festivals In Neelkanth Mahadev Temple 

Maha Shivratri is one of the top festivals celebrated in this temple. During this festival, many devotees gather there and worship Lord Shiva. People usually offer coconut, Bael leaves, milk, fruits, flowers, water, and honey to lord shiva on this auspicious day. 

Every year, two fairs are organized in this temple one is during the Maha Shivaratri, and the second one is the Shivratri of Shraavana. In the month of Shraavana, devotees trek from Haridwar to Neelkanth Mahadev temple. 

Neelkanth Mahadev Temple Timings and Entry Fee

There is no entry fee to go into this temple. The opening timings of Neelkanth Mahadev temple are 9 am to 5 pm every day. 

How To Reach Neelkanth Mahadev temple 

You can reach this temple via Rishikesh, which is 32 kilometers far from this temple. It is connected via roads, and they are in good condition. So, you can hire a car from Ram Jhula to reach this temple. 

Neelkanth Mahadev temple is 30 kilometers away from the Rishikesh railway station. You can use public transport or hire a cab at the railway station to reach this temple. This temple is 49 kilometers far from the Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun. You can hire a car from this airport to reach the Neelkanth Mahadev temple.
