Lakshman Jhula History
Lakshman Jhula has its own history, which is related to Hindu Mythology. According to history, Lakshman, the younger brother of Lord Ram, crossed the Ganga River at this place using a jute rope. Later, a jute rope bridge was built here and named Lakshman Jhula. The length of this bridge was 284 feet.
But this jute rope bridge was washed away in floods in October 1924. Later, a new iron bridge was built here in 1930. As of 5th November 2020, the bridge is closed for pedestrians. It is planned to close this bridge permanently when a new replacement bridge is built near this bridge.
There are barriers on both sides of the bridge that block the entry of motorbikes and scooters. Actually, this bridge has become weaker, so it can’t carry heavy loads now. Therefore, it is closed for safety concerns.

From Lakshman Jhula, you can get taxis for Neelkanth Mahadev temple, which is 20 kilometers from this place. Apart from that, there are many ashrams located near Lakshman Jhula where you can practice yoga, meditation, and spiritual activities.
