As the name suggests, it is a narrow iron suspension bridge over the Ganga River. This pool is 450 feet in length and connects Tehri district with Pauri Garhwal district. From this pool, you can get a wide view of the Ganga River and the city. The pool is generally suitable for pedestrians, but it is also used by motorbikers. 

Lakshman Jhula is considered one of the top tourist attractions in Rishikesh and attracts many people from different corners of the globe. At two kilometers distance downstream from Lakshman Jhula, Ram Jhula is situated, which is a large pedestrian bridge. 

Lakshman Jhula offers a great place for photography so you can take photos with your family and friends when you are here. Rishikesh Lakshman Jhula has stunning views of the surroundings and is great for taking photos. 

Lakshman Jhula History 

Lakshman Jhula has its own history, which is related to Hindu Mythology. According to history, Lakshman, the younger brother of Lord Ram, crossed the Ganga River at this place using a jute rope. Later, a jute rope bridge was built here and named Lakshman Jhula. The length of this bridge was 284 feet. 

But this jute rope bridge was washed away in floods in October 1924. Later, a new iron bridge was built here in 1930. As of 5th November 2020, the bridge is closed for pedestrians. It is planned to close this bridge permanently when a new replacement bridge is built near this bridge. 

There are barriers on both sides of the bridge that block the entry of motorbikes and scooters. Actually, this bridge has become weaker, so it can’t carry heavy loads now. Therefore, it is closed for safety concerns. 

Things To Do in Lakshman Jhula 

Laxman Jhula is a famous spot in Rishikesh, and many people come here to enjoy the picturesque view. This pool acts as a connection between two districts in this place. Near Lakshman Jhula, many temples are situated that you can visit when you are in Rishikesh. 

Some of the major temples near Lakshman Jhula are Trayambakeshwar Temple, Lakshman Temple, Sri Raghunath Ji Temple, And Saccha Akhileswar Mahadev Temple. Apart from that, you can visit Ram Jhula, which is just two kilometers away from Lakshman Jhula. 

From Lakshman Jhula, you can get taxis for Neelkanth Mahadev temple, which is 20 kilometers from this place. Apart from that, there are many ashrams located near Lakshman Jhula where you can practice yoga, meditation, and spiritual activities. 

How To Reach Lakshman Jhula?

It is one of the popular tourist spots in Rishikesh, and you can reach this place by auto or taxi. Form the Rishikesh railway station, Lakshman Jhula is 4 kilometers away. Dehradun airport is 22 kilometers away from Lakshman Jhula.
